Cryogen-free Two Stage Adiabatic Demagnetization Refrigerator from Janis

A cryogen-free two stage adiabatic demagnetization refrigerator has been developed using a 4 K pulse tube cryocooler. Gallium Gadolinium Garnet (GGG) and Ferric Ammonium Alum (FAA) paramagnetic pills were used for the first and second stage of the ADR, with Kevlar string supports for each stage. The FAA stage reaches a base temperature below 50 mK, and remains below 100 mK for more than two days. Special highly conductive flexible thermal links are employed to intercept any vibration generated by the pulse tube cryocooler and its compressor. The performance of this cryo-cooled ADR is better (lower base temperature and longer hold time below 100 mK) than the equivalent liquid helium-based system. Design and performance details of the systems can be optained at TECO René Koch, or directly at Janis. (pub: 2 August 2002).

Single Stage Cryogen-free He-3 Cryostat

he3_cc~1.gif Janis has developed a cryogen-free He-3 cryostat, which uses a two stage G-M cryo-cooler for He-3 condensation. After the He-3 gas is condensed, an internal charcoal sorption pump is used to pump the He-3 pot down to near 300 mK.

New 7400 series Vibrating Sample Magnetometer

7407.jpg Lake Shore's new 7400 series Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM) is the most sensitive VSM available today. This VSM features a noise floor of 1 x 10-7 emu at 10 seconds/point sampling, 4 x 10-7 emu at 1 sec/pt. and 7.5 x 10-7 emu at 0.1 seconds/point. In addition to providing the lowest noise floor, this VSM's patented technology leads to a stability of 0.05% per day which surpasses the stability of any other commercial VSM. Models based on variable gap 4", 7" and 10" electromagnets are available providing field strengths to above 3 tesla, and variable gap magnets allow for easy reconfiguration of the magnet gap to accommodate large samples to 1" ( Pub: 02 August 02).
